No byepolls in Jalukbari: Expert

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma pins hopes on fresh mandate as BJP candidate from Jalukbari. But there is a chance for by poll in Jalukbari.

Talking to Assam Times, constitutional expert Dr CJS Das said any bye poll just one year before the assembly does not make sense. “Assam has only 6 or 7 months to go to the assembly polls---less than a year. Hence, bye poll is not required,” said Dr Das. He said same policy is applicable if other dissident MLAs who are preparing to join BJP.

Notably, Dr Sarma is preparing to resign as MLA to be elected with fresh mandate from Jalukbari. But he has been keeping it pending time and again.
