Tension is simmering in Langpih in Kamrup district along the Assam-Meghalaya border following the brisk preparation by the Assam Government to set up a primary health centre on Saturday while the Meghalaya Government is all set to prevent Assam from doing it saying it falls under Meghalaya territory.
An angry Meghalaya Government was quick to call up union home secretary Madhukar Gupta seeking his intervention but the Assam government sticks to the gun. Health and family welfare minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and forest minister Rockybul Hussain are schedule to visit the area on Saturday to lay the foundation stone of the health centre.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Secretary has sent a letter to his Assam counterpart suggesting him not to allow the minister due on Saturday. This has forced the Donkuper Roy ministry to convene a cabinet meeting where they took serious note of what the Asam Government was doing to occupy their plot. The cabinet further has decided to adopt a slew of developmental projects in the area under question.
Meanwhile, a 36 hour bandh is disrupting normal life in the area which began from Friday in protest against the Assam Government's move to set a primary health centre at Lengpih. On the other hand, the West Khasi hills district authority has made an elaborate security arrangement to thwart any untoward incident that could come up on Saturday.
