Car makers need not be worried. Assam is all set to resume car sales. The Gauhati High Court has allowed the sale of the four wheelers that meet prescribed crash test and emission norms in the country.
The court issued the order after taking up a petition filed by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers challenging the Assam state transport department's move to ban the popular cars such as Maruti Alto and Swift as well as Hyundai EON and i10 hatchback.
The transport department cited a court ruling making it compulsory for the cars that must meet crash test norms conforming to the European New Car Assessment Programme, which are currently not applicable in India.
The High Court is set to resume the hearing on Thursday.
