Who is BJP's CM candidate: Gaurav

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s entry into BJP will put the people in utter confusion over the chief ministerial candidate.

Hours after Dr Sarma unofficially joined BJP, Gogoi said that if Sarma is made the chief ministerial candidate then what is in store for Sarbananda Sonowal and Siddharth Bhattacharya.

Talking to reports Gogoi  wondered why and how Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP a day after he was proud of his party’s victory in the Tiwa autonomous council polls.

NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary walks free on Sunday two days after he procured bail in all crucial cases. Immediately after walking out of the Guwahati Central jail, Daimary left for his home place Udalguri to be welcomed by the local residents. Braving a rising mercury voters are lined up across 862 booths in the ongoing civic polls in Guwahati city on Wednesday. Assamtimes team came to see the huge queue of voters even before 7 in the morning. Talking Assamtimes, polling authorities hoped that the turn out would cross 80 percent. Altogether 7,06,689 voters are expected to excercise their franchise in the single phase polling on Wednesday.
Worse is yet to come for Asom Gana Parishad. The party now stands crippled with escalating revolt against president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. His alleged autocratic style of functioning is believed to have forced a circle of dedicated party leaders to join the ruling Congress. Vice president Apurba Bhattacharya will join Congress on June 24. His trusted men are also in touch with the ruling party.  Party insiders blame Mahanta and his associates for the impending exodus. Assamtime was the first to break the deepening crises in the regional party citing Bhattacharya's contact with Congress. He left AGP on Tuesday to join the Congress.
Amid tight security polling in the Guwahati civic bodies begins across the city. Over 7 lakh voters are free to decide on the fate of172 ward councillors along with 356 area sabha candidates. The polling started at 7 in the morning at 862 stations. Assamtimes team came to see huge queue of voters in Beltola, Paltanbazar, Chandmari areas even before the voting started. Preparations are complete to ensure smooth conduct of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election on Wednesday.There will be 15 zonal magistrates and 72 sector officers monitoring the situation across the city in order to maintain law and order during the election. The strong room and counting hall at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati will be under surveillance of CCTV camera.
Rana Goswami and Bhupen Bora have resigned as parliamentary secretaries a day after their appointment as AICC secretaries in deference to the party’s one-man-one-post policy. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi accepted their resignations this evening.
