In a big development in the state’s political arena, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP.

The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

BJP to finalise Assam candidates

BJP election committee meets in New Delhi on Saturday where the party is expected to finalise candidates for 14 seats in Assam.Assam state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal has already submitted the applications of the ticket aspirants before the party high command.Reliable sources told Assam Times that the party finds it difficult to finalise only 14 candidates out of 141 aspirants.The state unit heavyweights met on Friday in Guwahati. Akhil moves HC for bail

Akhil Gogoi on Friday moved the Gauhati High Court seeking bail five days after he was arrested in connection with the recent self immolation case in Dispur.The court is expected to take up the bail petition on Monday. Amid tight security, Gogoi and two of his associates were taken to the Guwahati Central Jail after the court passed the order. He would be produced in the court on March 19.

Akhil, 2 others sent to jail

The Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate on Friday ordered judicial remand for Akhil Gogoi when police produced the KMSS president along with two other associates in the court.Police registered yet another case against Gogoi. However, police have not sought Gogoi in custody in connection with that case.Amid tight security, Gogoi and two of his associates were taken to the Guwahati Central Jail after the court passed the order. He would be produced in the court on March 19.

Akhil alleges conspiracy

Akhil Gogoi on Friday alleged a nefarious government conspiracy against him and his organization.Gogoi leveled this accusing finger against  the government immediately after landing at the CJM court premises in the afternoon when he was produced following the end of his police remand on Friday.   

Anna bats for Akhil

Anna Hazare on Friday rallied behind Akhil Gogoi five days after the KMSS president was arrested in connection with the recent self immolation case.The Gandhian leader has already sent his emissary to Gogoi who visited him in police custody on Friday.Hazare is likely to visit Guwahati in the first week of April.

Patowary joins BJP on Monday

Its confirm. Chandra Mohan Patowary will join BJP. The former AGP president is all set to join the party at a brief function in New Delhi on Sunday.According to sources, Patowary who got full assurance from his supporters at an informal meeting in his residence, is likely to be fielded in Barpeta constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Patowary has been in constant touch with the BJP leadership in New Delhi for the last couple of months.

AICC screening panel meets

AICC screening panel is meeting on Friday in New Delhi to fine tune the list of Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7,12 and 24.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita are camping in the capital to attend the meeting.After the screening committee meeting, the party’s election committee is scheduled to meet in the evening where the list is expected to be approved.Senior party leaders told Assam Times that the list would be available by Saturday.

Police are all set to produce Akhil Gogoi seeking more remand in a string of fresh cases pending against the KMSS president.Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi along with two others would be produce before the CJM court at 3 in the afternoon. The 24 hour custody in connection with the self immolation cases would expire on Friday evening.The Kamrup additional chief judicial magistrate extended the police remand by a day after the KMSS president along with three of his associates were produced before the court on Thursday adfternoon.Police sought Gogoi and his associates in their remand for five more days for investigation and interrogation in a number of serious cases.
