Good news for 6 communities

Tai Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Moran, Mutocks  along with two others are likely to get ST status.

The good news for the six communities has come from the Centre when the six ethnic community leaders hunkered down with Union tribal affairs minister Juel Ornam in New Delhi on Thursday.

Flanked by sports minister Sarbabanda Sonowal, Ornam said the Centre will have to change the modalities in the soon to be held cabinet meeting.

After the seal of approval from the cabinet, the modalities would be ready. It would take two or three months to complete the entire proceedings.

Later the delegation talked to union home minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence.

The move assumed significance despite the escalating protest of the existing ST people.

The other two are tea tribes and Sutiya not chutia. Ahom ,  Koch and Sutiya were ruling class of Assam during medievel period. Next time please name the ''other two'' as sentiments are related to it.

GUWAHATI: Two bikers snatched away a bag containing money on the road leaving the Guwahati police red faced on Wednesday. GUWAHATI: Nine more ACS, APS and allied service officers on Wednesday are facing hand writing test in connection with the APSC scam. GUWAHATI: Three minor boys were charred to death when suspected miscreants set afire at least ten huts in Guwahati on Tuesday. The incident took place at Patorchi area near Basistha in the wee hours where unidentified miscreants who have been terrorizing these people for the last couple of weeks set on fire the huts.   Local residents told www.assamtimes.com that the three kids could not come out since they were in deep sleep and their parents only managed to come out of the burning huts. A team of police from Basistha arrived in the spot and the situation was brought under control.           
JAGIROAD: A Naga rhino poachers died at  fierce gun battle with the forest guards in Pobitora on Tuesday. The gunfight which lasted for nearly one hour took place in the wee hours. Acting on a tip off that a gang of 4-5 poachers managed to sneak in to the sanctuary forest guards started fanning in the vulnerable areas where the encounter took place. One of the rhino poachers died and four others are believed to have vanished from the spot.
