No ray of hope

The Naga peace pact accord will hardly help the north eastern region restore peace and normalcy if the various parties, organizations and individuals are to be believed.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Thursday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that the prime minister should not have struck the deal without consulting with the north eastern chief ministers. “It suggests his arrogance which will not help,” she said.

Talking to Assam Times, another senior Congress leader said that it could foment trouble in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh if the UPA government has compromised the territorial integrity of the neigbouring states.

“The UPA government calls it a historic pact. But what forces prime minister Narendra Modi to keep it secret. I have reasons to believe that something uneasy must be there,” he said.

A student leader told Assam Times that even the people of Nagaland are not so much happy. “Had it been with NSCN-K, it would have been different. But a pact signed in New Delhi ignoring the anti talk faction would hardly yield any result,” he said.
