Amit Shah on visit to Guwahati

BJP president is on stock taking visit to Guwahati nine months ahead of the assembly polls.

Immediately after landing at the Borjhar airport, he along with 10 other top leaders straightly arrived at the Machkhowa ITA to address the convention of the party’s north eastern leaders.

Later in the day he would met the state leadership to take stock of the state’s pre poll political landscape.   

He is scheduled to leave the city in the evening.

Wrong News. After landing at Borjhar LGBI Airport, he went to Hotel Rituraj where he conducted a personal meeting for more than one hour and then around 12:10 proceeded to ITA Machkhowa from where he left for Delhi.

The UPA government will introduce a Bill to create an Upper House in Assam Legislative Assembly during the Winter Session of Parliament.The Assam government said the Union Minister for Law and Justice Kapil Sibal has told Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi about the decision to establish a Legislative Council (Upper House) in Assam Legislative Assembly.Assam Assembly has passed two resolutions for creation of an Upper House in 2005 and 2010.

An Assam-based journalists organization appealed to people not to follow the I-day boycott diktat on Thursday.In a statement, the Journalists' Forum Assam sad that it wants everybody to celebrate the Independence Day to pay tribute to the martyrs of the freedom struggle.The organization has asked people of the region to hoist the national flag at their houses and at other significant locations.Media people are urged to join the celebrations of India's 67th Independence Day at the Guwahati Press Club Aug 15.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he has nothing to object if the Centre grants Bodoland. Talking to reporters in Delhi on Monday Gogoi said, “I am open to it. If the Government of India decides, I have no objection." An All India Congress Committee general secretary Avinash Pandey is on a visit to Diphu and Kokrajhar to study the statehood demands of various ethnic communities. AICC leader Avinash Pandey held a meeting with the state Congress leaders in Diphu a day before his visit to Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts where the demand for separate Kamtapur and Bodoland states is getting strident.State party leaders apprised him of the statehood demands of Karbi, Dimasa, Koch Rajbongshi and Bodo communities.He will submit his findings to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on his return to Delhi. 
A dreaded KPLT militant was killed at an encounter with police in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday. The encounter took place during an operation in Bokajan where the militant identified as Tom died on the spot. Five other militants fled from the encounter spot. Later police recovered an AK-56 rifle along with a magazine, 72 rounds of bullets.
Two Achik National Volunteer Council militants were killed by locals residents along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Friday.According to police, a group of 7 militants had come to Darangthop under Agia police station for extortion to be attacked by an irate mob. Police claimed to have seized a pistol with one of the ultras of the proscribed outfit and raised an alarm. A US-made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition and two mobile phone hand sets were recovered from them. The deceased were identified as Nabang Changma and Wasi Changma.
