The Asom Sahitya Sabha demands inclusion of all indigenous people in NRC without any legacy data.
The state’s largest literary body will move the Supreme Court seeking exemption of OBC, MOBC, SC along with the Brahmins and Kalita community people from legacy data for inclusion of their names in the updated NRC.
The Sabha will be one of the parties in the issue when the apex court will review the progress of the entire ongoing process on July 14.

Polling for 6 Assam, Meghalaya assembly seats ends largely peacefully

The voting under by-polls in six assembly constituencies of Assam and Meghalaya, conducted to fill up the vacant seats (as the respective legislators had shifted their focus to the national politics after winning the recently conducted Lok Sabha polls), ended largely peacefully on Wednesday evening with a satisfactory over 70% voters’ turn out.
