Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Security forces claimed to have killed yet another NDFB (S) rebel at an encounter in Karbi Anglong district. The encounter took place at Bogijan area bordering Golaghat in the evening.Sources told Assam Times that police had to fire upon after they came to see three suspected NDFB (S) militants. A rebel was killed on the spot while two others managed to escape. Police further recovered a pistol, two grenades and seven live cartridges were recovered from the spot.

NIA director general Sharad Kumar is on a 3 days visit to Guwahati to review the probe into the recent Adivasi carnage in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts.Kumar is scheduled to meet the NIA officials who have been probing the cases today. Then he will meet the chief secretary and DGP to discuss the probe. On Wednesday and Thursday, Kumar is expected to visit the massacres sites to assess the situation. NIA has been probing 4 cases. 
Assam Congress has ruled out further patch up with BPF. But the ruling party will forge alliance with other secular parties if need be. This was what party president Anjan Dutta told reporter in Guwahati on Monday.Dutta said that the decision came from the party high command a few months before the BTC elections.  He said that there was no bar for the party to join hands with any other "secular" force for the election. He said the party is all prepared to go it alone in the BTC elections alone, but it may form an alliance if necessary. According to Dutta, many BPF leaders have expressed willingness to join Congress before the BTC polls
Police claimed to have nabbed two suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants along the West Bengal -Assam border on Monday. The militants were nabbed from Shamuktala under the Shamuktala police station in Alipurduar district of West Bengal on Monday wee hours.Identified as Gangaprasad Basumata and Sagid Narjinari from Kolkrajhar district, they would be produced before court on Monday. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them. 
Poachers struck at Kaziranga killing this year’s first rhino in the national park on Sunday. The one-horned animal was was killed in the park's Burhapahar range. Forest guards rushed to the spot only after hearing the gunshots. But by then the poachers left the spot.This is the first poaching case in the national park this year. A rhino was killed Dec 31 in the Orang National park in Darrang district. A home guard, who was deployed in the park, was also killed during the incident. 
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that Congress would retain power in the next Assembly elections are held this year. alking to reporters on Thursday, he said that his party is sure of poll victory in the 2016 polls. According to him, the voters are dissatisfied with the way BJP is handling the problem.He admitted that 2014 was not good on political front for the party and that they took Lok Sabha poll result as a wake-up call. 
Finally NIA has stepped in. The country’s premier investigation agency registered a criminal case in connection with the recent NDFB-S carnage where at least 80 people lost their lives in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang districts. NIA registered four cases after examining the relevant papers handed over by police. The agency took over the case after Union Home Ministry Rajnath Singh agreed to accepted chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s request. 
Sonali Maasor Din, a short story compilation  by Kapil Thakur was inaugurated by Col. Manoranjan Goswami at the ongoing 28th Guwahati Book Fair on Thursday. The book is a compilation of 23 short stories written over time. Present during the book release among others were, author Riju Hazarika, Rajen Sarma, publisher Chandra Prakash.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said on Thursday that his government would spare no pain this year for the welfare of the people. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Gogoisaud that overall development of the state is his priority and would stay.Gogoi further wished the people a happy new year.
