It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..
A massive operation is going on in Bangaluru in search of more NDFB ultras who are believed to have been hiding in the IT town for the last couple of months.The operation has been intensified after police apprehended 4 NDFB militants who were engaged in a manufacturing factory in the city.Police have inputs suggesting that nearly 40 militants have been hiding in the various southern cutues forcing the authorities to launch the operation.At least 20 of them are engaged in a few factories in the state where police and internal security division in Karnataka have been continuing a number of raids.The militants were believed to have been planning to attack a number of personalities in Karnataka...
Flood waters continue to wreak havoc in Kaziranga, Pobitora and Sibru Saikhowa following the rise in the water levels of the Brahmaputrea.Flood waters in Kaziranga have forced the animals to shift for the high lands. Rhinos, tigers, deers along with others are leaving for the Karbi hills in Kaziranga.The picture is not different from the Dibru Saikhowa. The panic stricken wild horses are sneaking into the human habitats seeking shelter forcing the authorities to ensure tight vigil.
There seems to be no let up in the overall flood scene with rains refusing to halt on Sunday. More and more areas have come under the surging waters during the last 24 hours. The Brahmaputra and its tributeries are still flowing above the danger level suggesting that it would take time for the water levels to recede. The worst-hit districts include Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpurwhere lakhs of people have been rendered homeless apart from damaging crops. While the Brahmaputra flowed above the danger mark in Nimatighat in Jorhat and Dhubri, its tributaries washed away roads, embankments and bridges in various districts.
BJP will field Manoj Baruah from Pattacharkuchi in the assembly polls early next year.Sources told Assam Times that Baruah agreed to join the saffrone party only after the leadership assured him ticket to contest from the Barpeta district constituency.Baruah resigned as AJYCP president at a special meeting in Guwahati least week.
A team of police from Guwahati is seeking transit remand for four NDFB militants two days after they were apprehended in Bengaluru.Identified as Tonon Basumatri, Sundun Basumatri, Nerson Basumatri and Jibnal Nersary, they would be brought to Guwahati for interrogatin by police and other investigation agencies.According to police, they were hiding in their Laggere house, near Peenya to be raided on Friday. They have been working in a bag-manufacturing unit at Srigandhakaval, off Magadi Road.
Outgoing AJYCP president Manoj Baruah has joined BJP on Sunday after he was assured of ticket to contest from Pattacharkuchi in Barpeta district in the next assembly polls.Baruah joined the party before state unit president Siddharth Bhattacharya at a brief function organizaed at the party headquarters in Guwahati on Sunday.Several senior party leaders attended the function who hope that his joining would boost the morale of the party.
The Kamatapur Liberation Organization has made it plain and simple that Jiban Singha is still alive three days after the army claimed to have killed the outfit’s chairman at a sytrike in Myanmar. KLO told a section of media on Saturday night that Jivan is keeping fine and that army have been spreading lies to confuse the people. KLO made its position clear hours after ULFA confirmed that the KLO chief was not dead as it wa claimed by army. Notably, army on Friday claimed to have killed the KLO chief at a strike inside the soil of Myanmar along with several other insurgent leaders.
Yet another student leader is preparing to join politics. He is none other than Aswini Chetia. The president of All Tai Ahome Students Union is all set to join Congress shortly. APCC sources told Assam Times that Chetia is in constant touch with party president Anjan Dutta. Sources confirmed that Chetia will seek to contest from Sivasagar in the assembly polls early next year.Chetia’s preparation to join the ruling party assumes significance after a circle of AASU and AJYCP leaders are joining BJP.
The flood situation threatens to take further grim turn if the weathermen are to be believed. Meteorological centre in Guwahati has predicted more rainfall in the state during the next 48 hours. It would further compound the scene in 10 districts. These flood hit districts have received excess rain during the last ten days. Chirang and Goalpara recorded 312 per cent and 243 per cent excess rain respectively.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi reviewed the overall flood scene at a meeting with senior bureaucrats in Dispur on Saturday. Gogoi, who arrived in Guwahati from New Delhi on Friday hunkered down with chief secretary VK Pipersenia along with other senior officers where he asked the officers to expedite relief and rescue in the flood hit areas to mitigate the misery of the flood hit people. Food and civil supply, health department officials apprised the chief minister of the current stock of food and medicines for the flood hit measures.
