It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A college student died and 4 others injured when a four wheeler rammed into a motorcycle in the outskirt of Guwahati on Wednesday. The incident took place at Campo in Boko where one of the biker student died on the spot after a Santro car hit his bike on his way to the college. A full grown female rhinoceros was found dead in Orang on Wednesday. According to the Rajiv Gandhi National Park authorities in Orang, the 45 year old animal breathed her last in the morning after suffering from physical disorder for the last couple of weeks. AJYCP takes serious note of the incidents of alleged attack on the villagers in Mayong area in Morigaon district by a circle of doubtful citizens. Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday reviewed the law and order situation in Assam a day after ULFA scorned the security forces with a series of blast amid the Independence Day celebrations. A full grown elephant from Assam died in Bangladesh on Tuesday a couple of days after it reached the neighbouring country by travelling on the river Brahmaputra. The elephant was learnt to have passed away early in the morning making futile all efforts to save the animal which slipped into the mighty river two months back. According to the experts, the animal was took weak after it was repeatedly tranquilized and therefore, the treatment did not work. The incident took place when a team of forest officials was on its way to visit Bangladesh to take the elephant in their possession.
The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) on Tuesday owned up the responsibility of the serial explosions when the state joined the country wide Independence Day on Monday. In a statement, ULFA-I publicity secretary Aronodoy Asom said that they ensured that not even a single indigenous person was killed or injured in the explosions. He said that the armed protest was never aimed at terrorizing the indigenous lot. According to him, the celebration was imposed in Assam. AJYCP has strongly lashed out at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday alleging his stoic silence in his Independence Day speech on the main issues confronting the state for decades. In a statement issued here on Monday, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said the main issues have eluded in his speech.
