V K Pipersenia new chief secretary
Vinod Kumar Pipersenia took over charge as Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam on Sunday, said an official press statement. Retiring Chief Secretary, Jitesh Khoshla, while handing over the charge, wished him success, in the august presence of other senior officials at the state secretariat. VK Pipersenia an IAS of 1980 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre will be the 45th Chief Secretary of the state.
Born on August 5, 1957 at Konch, Uttar Pradesh, VK Pipersenias first assignment was that of an Assistant Commissioner in Dhubri district. He also served in various capacities as SDO (Civil) Nalbari, Deputy Commissioner, Nalbari, Joint Secretary, Health and Secretary, Revenue.
While on deputation, he has also worked with the Government of India in various ministries such as Home, Industry, Human Resource Development, etc. He has also served as Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Human Resource Development as well as Financial Commissioner in Employees State Insurance Corporation under Ministry of labour and Employment.
During his tenure in the Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Assam State Disaster Management Authority took shape and majority of the districts underwent transition from manual to computerised processes, besides, the mission mode implementation of Computerisation of Registration Project won the National e-Governance Award in 2013.

Three teams of school children from Assam – two from Nagaon and one from Tezpur in Sonitpur district – have made excellent presentation in a global teleconferencing coordinated by the civil engineering department of North Dakota State University of the USA on Wednesday on their project on Rediscovering Water.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct special recruitment drives in the month of May-June, 2013 in the border districts of Assam for Category-Constable/GD posts. These special recruitment rallies will be conducted for filling up the vacancies which remain unfilled after the recruitment through Staff Selection Commission. This would be preceded by 15 days long training session to be organized by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to acquaint/acclimatize the candidates with the examination process. Ekhon Nedekha Nodir Xipare (As the River Flows), a film by debutant director Bidyut Kotoky on the troubled river island Majuli has won two awards at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF).
