The Gauhati High Court has asked the government to clear two animal corridors of the Kaziranga National Park within two months which will affect over 350 families. Hearing a PIL by Mrinal Kumar Saikia, a division bench of the court acting Chief Justice K Shredhar Rao and Justice PK Saikia asked the government to clear Bandordubi and Deusurchang from illegal settlers within two months. According to government document, Bandordubi area alone has at least 168 families in addition to 190 other families are residing in Deusur area. Despite the court order for clearing the areas the government failed to follow it citing technical and natural reasons.
The Mizoram police have arrested a person more than a week after he kidnapped a minor girl in Aizawl. The girl was rescued his captivity on Sunday. The 53 year old man allegedly kidnapped the 7-year-old girl from Harinagar village on October 3 from a hospital where the girl’s mother was undergoing treatment. He took the girl for fetching medicine and took her way. Then the mother moved police on October 6 forcing the police to launch a search operation. Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Assam and Mizoram police launched an operation with the help of the Harinagar villagers. Assam sports directorate has condoled the death of former sports and youth welfare minister Prabin Gogoi in Guwahati on Monday. The employees of the directorate in Dispur adopted a resolution condoling the death of Gogoi and conveyed deep sympathy for the bereaved family members. Gogoi died at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital after prolonged ailment on Monday.
Utter anger grips Bhawanipur area in Barpeta district on Monday a day after miscreants kept a cow head inside a local temple on Sunday suggesting an abortive attempt to create an orgy of communal clash. The incident came to light when a few local residents discovered a cow head inside the Madan Mohan Gosain Than Satra at Banglipara. A woman and her son lost their lives when a storm lashed the city of Guwahati on Saturday night. The tragic incident took place at Dhirenpara area when a minor boy died in electrocution after high voltage powerlines collapsed in the storm. When his mother tried to rescue her 12 year old son she also died in electrocution. Amid shock and anger, local residents blamed the power department for lack of maintenance which was why the powerlines collapsed in the storm.
The Dispur police have arrested Juel Garlosa hours after the former DHD(J) top leader turned politician met governor PB Acharya along with senior BJP leaders to stake claims for forming the Dima Hasao autonomous council.A team of Dispur police station arrived in the residence of Garlosa and arrested the elected member of the autonomous council in the wee hours in connection with a case pending against him with the Lenting police station.
