The Chennai police have busted a notorious human trafficking racket in Assam arresting a 25-year-old man on Friday.Police caught the person from Assam acting on inputs by an autorickshaw driver who got wind of the conversation between the suspect from Guwahati Mainool with a teashop owner at the Koyambedu bus terminus.He allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from the shop owner to deploy the child there. According to police, he decided to get the boy to wreak vengeance for his lodging a complaint against him.
CBI probing the Saradha scam arrested Sadananda Gogoi to extract more inputs on the multi crore scam. The country’s premier investigation agency arrested Gogoi on Friday to probe Saradha boss Sudipto Sen’s alleged link with political leaders, police officials and businessmen in Guwahati. He was arrested at CBI’s Kolkata office after questioning him for several times in the first week of September. Gogoi is believed be the main linkman between Sen and MLA Himanta Biswa Sarma, former DGP Sankar Baruah. Cachar district returning officer has filed an FIR against senior cabinet minister Gautam Roy alleging violation of poll code in Silchar which goes to bypolls on Saturday. Acting on a complaint of open cash distribution to voters on behalf of the Congress candidates, the returning officer lodged the complaint on Thursday. The authority has further served him a showcause notice. Two BJP leaders, Muktar Abbas and P.K. Das moved the Election Commission on Tuesday in New Delhi submitting a video clipping of Roy distributing cash among the voters.
The Assam government has set up a Judicial Commission to study the working conditions in the tea gardens. Headed by a retired judge, the panel will study the implementation of the Plantation Labour Act in the tea gardens apart from suggesting measures to improve the working condition. The judicial panel would look into the housing, health, education and other facilities being provided by the tea gardens. The government has made it mandatory that a tea garden must have all the facilities under the Plantation Labour Act before it can be sold off.
