There is a flutter at the Gauhati University campus as its Vice Chancellor Dr Amarjyoti Chaudhory has resigned citing his failures to uplift the varsity due to lack of cooperation from the Assam Government. According to information,Dr Chaudhory has tender his resignation on Saturday afternoon. Details are awaited. Notably, Dr Chaudhory withdrew resignation last year after the government assured him of help to uplift it. Accordingly, the Government released released a huge Rs 1 crorer fund in December, 2007. But the sudden and unwanted resignation has shocked the entire academic fraternity.
Dr Choudhury was our teacher when we were PU student in Cotton College. A highly respected teacher.
There should be some serious mistakes in related with Assam Government which has forced bright, upright, honest officers to flee the state. This state is very difficult to work. There is no place for genuine people there. Only boot lickers, chamcha are welcomed there. I too had very bad experience worked while working in the state. There is virtually no control in the state - a lawlessness, chaotic - a shameful state

This is very unfortunate... It seems we cannot make any difference to the ailing systems we have been languishing for decades...This was the first time that any VC tried to uplift the University with a visionary plan... what is wrong with us, why can't we get past the age old problems and make our educational institutions the best in the country! I think the Govt. of Assam should take every measure to keep Dr. Chourdhury as VC and give Gauhati University its long due development. People should urge the authority concerned to make sure that Dr. Choudhury can carry out his plans for the University.

Unfortunate and boring too. With due respect to Dr. A J Choudhury sir, the same ploy will do nothing except loosing weight and faith. He should rather make use of the available resources and better make the administration solid. I am sorry to say, but what he will do the next time..? Still I would pray for him for the sake of GU.
Several rebels including 10 hardcore ULFA cadres are set to surrender before Amy just a short while from now. According to information, these will cadres are ready to lay down their arms before the army at its Dinjan based Second Mountain Division camp. The All Assam Students Union will continue the agitation unless the government stops the move to retain the Assam Oil Division's marketing branch in Assam. The AASU leaders have warned that they are not comfort with OIL's decision only to retain the red rhino symbol. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjee said they will stop any move to hurt the interest of Assam and its people. Veteran freedom fighter Indreswar Phukan of Golahgat breathed his last on Thursday morning. He was 90. The end came early in the morning at his own residence. For the last couple of months he had been ailing. Mr Phukan was actively engaged in the freedom struggle and was known to be closed associate of Kushal Konwar. It may be noted that two years ago he got his burial place dug in the form of moidam for his last rites.
Two people have been arrested by police and seized some flash of fox from their possession in the city’s kamakhya Railway station on Wednesday night. According to information, acting on some specific top off that two persons were coming by the Bohagi Train with some flash from Kendukona area, leaders of the non governmental organisation People For Animal Sangita Goswami and others informed it to police and were waiting for the train to arrive in the station.
