The on going process to update the National Register of Citizens reaches its crucial stage. From next week the forms would be available for all. In some areas, the officials would drop the forms at the door steps.
Senior officials deployed in the operation told Assam Times that the forms would be available free of cost for all citizens. They can fill up the form in English, Assamese and Bengali.
The NRC Seva Kendras, mostly, have already received the forms for distribution. The form is accompanied by a sheet of papers containing the guidelines to fill up the form. The form can also be downloaded.
Each of the families would get one form each. But additional form is required if case the family members are more than 6.
The draft is likely to be published by the end of October. The final NRC is expected to be published by January 31, 2016. …

Over 20 people have been injured when a passenger bus slipped into deep gorge in near Guwahati on Saturday.The accident took place at around 2-30 in the afternoon when the passenger bus was on its way to Kamakhya and suddenly it lost control and fell on a gorge where several people were rescued by police and local residents.
Governor J B Patnaik said that the government's counter insurgency operations have fetched dividends where the republic day boycott call was defied. In his address after unfurling the national flag in Khanapara in Guwahati, he said that steps are being taken to bring about overall socio-economic development in the state.
He said that the government is leaving no stone unturned to put Assam on a track of rapid development process. Patnaik also said that government was committed to fighting corruption.

Defying militant diktat, Republic Day was celebrated across the stat with much fanfare and cultural extravaganza. A powerful Improvised Explosive Devices was recovered ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Darrang district on Thursday.The bomb was found near the Mangaldoi police station and Republic Day parade ground in the morning.
