AGP unification mood draws mixed reaction

The formal process for unification of regional parties has come in for a mixed bag reactions from several parties and organisations.
Speaking to assamtimes, senior Congress leaders have said for Congress they have nothing to be worried as Congress defeated the regional party in the Assambly polls while it was remaining united under Mahanta's leadership and similarly, the regional party down in the last assembly polls while Bindabon Goswami was at the helm of affairs.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) has made it clear that they will not change their earlier stand i.e they are not averse to unification mood only if it sans former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta whom they have called betrayer and did it time and again while he was in power.
The BJP has welcomed the unification mood saying it's a step in right direction. According to BJP firebrand an former Union minister Bijoya Chakravarty only unification of regional party will be able to corner the ruling Congress.

Other regional pressure groups are also happy with this mood saying it is the begining of an end to the Congress regime in Assam.
Meanwhile the PLP president Ananda Borbora (not of the faction led by Pabinda Deka), who also participated on Monday's meeting with AGP unification body haded by Phani Bhushan Chaudhory, said his party will not give up its separate entity but will do whatever is required to boost the siprit of regionalism.
it may be noted the AGP unification body hold parleys with four of its breakaway groups at the party headquarters.

The panel will submit its findings within a period of two months. party insiders here say the report will be a positive one but it is up to the party's steering committee headed by Brindabon Goswami.
