Nazira BJP forms civic body

The BJP lead new municipal body of Nazira Municipal board took over on Saturday. Senior BJP leader of Nazira Dilip Hazarika was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the new municipal board of Nazira. Jorhat MP Kamakhya Tasa, MLA Debobrate Saikia along with SDO (C) Syed Zahid Chisty etc. were prominent among those who attended the function.

On the other hand, BJP formed the new town committee at Simaluguri electing Swapna Saikia and Md.Rofik Ali as the new chairperson and vice chairman.

The International Women's Day is observed today at Bihubor.  It was organized by Bihubor Siloni Mahila Surakhya Sommittee Pragati Mahila Mancha -a unit of the NGO Pragati Nazira and NaziraMahkuma Mahila Somittee. In this connection a seminar on the global topic -'Make it Happen ' was held, where women right activist Dibyajyoti Gohain Gogoi, Anjalee Dutta,Nijumoni Gogoi etc.were present and delivered their lectures on the field of women empowerment. A sports competition was also organised and a colourful cultural procession was also taken out.

Continuous erosion caused by Dikhou river has now become a threat to the existence of the historic Gorokhiya Dol located in Nazira. The lackadaisical attitude of the concerned departments has left the monument in a deplorable condition. If nothing is done at the moment, the monument built in the 17th century during the reign of the Ahom kings, may soon become extinct.

Nazira All Assam Minority Students Union felicitated the newly  elected ward civic body members at a function on Sunday. Presided over by AMSU President Farukuddin Ahmed, the speakers hoped that the new members would spare no pain to deliver the goods. The senior citizens asked the newly elected ward members to work in a constructive way for the all round development of the town. BJP got 6 seats while Congress   got only 4 in Nazira and the BJP will form the next municipal board of Nazira.
Municipal elections along with the rest of the state were also held for 10 seats in Nazira and 8 seats in Simaluguri on February 9. The candidates now eagerly await the results scheduled for February 12. The Tarun Gogoi led Congress government is confident of winning all the 18 seats while the BJP on the other hand too is sure of capturing the same. While this appears to be an overstatement by one of the parties or both, the public are of the view that the Congress are all in shape to form the next municipal body in Nazira and Simaluguri. 
Civic polls passed off peacefully in Nazira on Monday. The Sivasagar district sub division held civic polls for Nazira and Simaluguri towns.The turn out is In Nazira  above 60 per cent which ended at 4 in the afternoon without any untoward incident.
The Nazira Press Club in association with the Freelance Journalists' Association of Nazira organized a programme on Wednesday in an effort to interact with all the municipal candidates who are contesting in the forthcoming civil elections. Around 300 people gathered in front of the Nazira Natya Mandir to understand the views and plans of the contesting candidates.
