The BJP lead new municipal body of Nazira Municipal board took over on Saturday. Senior BJP leader of Nazira Dilip Hazarika was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the new municipal board of Nazira. Jorhat MP Kamakhya Tasa, MLA Debobrate Saikia along with SDO (C) Syed Zahid Chisty etc. were prominent among those who attended the function.
On the other hand, BJP formed the new town committee at Simaluguri electing Swapna Saikia and Md.Rofik Ali as the new chairperson and vice chairman.

A two-days-long 15th annual conference of the Sivasagar district All Assam Students Union (AASU) was held at Maut Gaon, Simaluguri on on January 4-5. The new executive committee was formed in this conferance with Samiron Phukon became the general secretary and Ashim Dutta as the new president.
