Dispur seems to have received one after another blow from the court these days. It received another blow on Wednesday when the Gauhati High Court asked home secretary to personally appear before on Monday to inform it the measures to deal with the witch-hunting cases.
Taking up a PIL by Rajeeb Kalita, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice K. Sreedhar Rao and Justice Prasanta Saikia issued the directive to the home secretary.
According to allegations, despite the death of 80 people during the last five years, the Assam government is not at all serious to firmly deal with witchery cases.
Even after five months of the court order, the government has failed to prepare a set of stringent laws to firmly deal with these cases.
