Veteran physician passes away
A pall of glooms descends in the entire Bajali area in Barpeta district when renowned physician Dr Umesh Chandra Das breathed his last on Wednesday.
Various parties, organizations and individuals arrived in his residence early in the morning and paid their last homage to the lifeless Das immediately they came to know the sad news.
Talking to Assam Times, a cross section of the people conveyed their deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed to the God for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Das, the first MBBS degree holder in the huge area passed away at his own residence at the age of 92. Born in 1923 at Jalighata, Das is survived by his three sons and four daughters.

NIA probing the Burdwan bombing case has arrested 6 more villagers from Barpeta on Wednesday a day before the investigating team left for Bangladesh. The incident took place when the youth was travelling on the North East Express and as the train arrived in Dayaguri in Barpeta district he suddenly fell on the ground to be crushed by the train.

Bhawanipur police busted a sex racket after the arrest of four people on Monday. Local residents in Bhawanipur Daxinhati told Assam Times that acting on their complaints, police raided the residence of Mrinal Talukdar on Monday midnight where they found a youth along with two girls. According to allegations, Talukdar and his wife have been running the sex racket for the last couple of months forcing them to move police for action.
