This is unfortunate that in the name of "tradition" we do still encourage so many unethical things. Remember the Supreme Court ban on Jalikattu. This is just another regional version of the same dirty devil spirit. The best way to maintain tradition is to restore our primitive ones. For eg. staying naked and go back to our hunting gathering stage.

A vociferous protest against big dams reaches its crucial stage when union environment minister Jairam Ramesh was greeted with protest as he was arriving in Guwahti for a public hearing on the NHPC owned big dam in Arunachal Pradesh. As the Union minister started the public hearing at Machkhowa, ITA, hundreds of local organizations and political parties approached him to register stiff protest again the on going construction of the big dam in Gerukamukh by NHPC in the name of the lower Subansiri hydel project. Citing the expert panel report, these parties and organisations have told the minister that the big dam might spell an ecological disaster for the people in down stream areas.

BJP leader Smriti Irani has alleged failure of the Congress governments' failure on the law and order front in the North East. Addressing the media in Itanagar on Tuesday she said scams, poor infrastructure and food crisis are the common tags for all Congress-ruled states in the country. She said she was working to bring more women leaders from the North East in electoral politics. Chakka bandh disrupts normal transport service

A 12 chaka bandh heavily disrupts normal transport service in Assam also on Tuesday. Gogoi in Delhi, to arrive in Guwahati on Sep 10

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has left Mumbai and arrived in Delhi on Monday evening three days after he was discharged from the Asian Heart Institute. The chief minister then shifted to the Hotel Trident for three days. Gogoi, who is in Delhi now will be arriving in Guwahati on September 10.

Rainwaters flood Guwhati

A heavy downpour brings untold misery for Guwahatians in the form of flood and massive traffic jam. NFNE condemns killing of journalist in Hojai

National Federation of Newspaper Employees (India) has expressed shock and dismay at the brutal killing of a freelance journalist based in Hojai, Assam on September 4 (Saturday). Bimala Prasad Talukder, 70, was killed by miscreants at Rampur under Hojai police station in Nagaon district and his wounded body was found by 9 pm, reported the Guwahati based satellite news channels. Abhinav Saikia pledge to make schools bully free

Abhinav Saikia, a tenth grade student at High School North in West Windsor Plainsboro, New Jersey, USA is in India on a mission. During his earlier visits he found that bullying at schools and incidents of cyber bullying were common in India as well.
