The All Assam Students Union a still a huge force that can unite the people in the time of identity crisis. This was more or less of what a cross section of the people said in Dudhnoi where the student body is holding its 16th Convention from Monday.
Dipsikha Devi, a college teacher told Assam Times that only the student body has the ability to unite the people at a time when Assam and its people are heading towards a crisis of identity.
“Had there been no Assam Agitation, had there been no AASU, the entire state would have been an another Bangladesh,” said Devi.
“The people of Assam cannot forget the AASU leaders and their contribution. That’s why, people of all walks are pouring in Dudhnoi to attend the convention,” said Devendra Khaklari who hails from Darrang district.
A local AASU leader Dipmoni Deka told Assam Times that they would keep fighting for the people. “It is our duty to mount pressure on Dispur and Delhi to help the state develop on all front. We won’t allow any injustice to our people,” said Deka who is a student of a local college.
