Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

Guwahati: A suspected COVID19 positive case triggers no less panic in the state on Saturday. According to information, JMCH lab claimed to have found some positive notes of COVID19 virus in the body of a 5 year old girl who complained of fever and cough. The patient along with her parents have wrapped up a visit to Bihar by train a couple of days back. The sample along with the patient have been referred to RMCH in Lahowal in Dibrugarh on Saturday for final test. The confirmation is expected by afternoon. Corona virus lockdown: Dispur seeks to plug learning gaps

As a preventive measure to arrest the spread of Covid-19 in the State, all the elementary/secondary schools and higher educational institutions have been closed down from March 16 to March 29 as per an order issued by the Education department. Arunachal Pradesh bars visitors

The Arunachal Pradesh government has barred all visitors from entering the State from 21 March. In an order issued on Thursday, the government said that all visitors/tourist inner line permits stand cancelled with immediate effect. Coronavirus scare: BTC polls postponed

Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, scheduled for 4 April next, has been postponed indefinitely. State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar on Friday informed that the polling for the council is being deferred in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country. Guwahati: Ratcheting up control measures against the Covid-19 corona virus, the Assam government on Thursday ordered the temporary closure of all liquor bars, night clubs, beauty parlors and salons immediately as a precautionary measure.
