Barpeta breaks into a sea of humanity after the holi, the festival got underway on Thursday with prayers and bursting of fire crackers early in the morning.
People from far flung areas thronged in thousands at the Barpeta monastery to catch a glimpse of the much vaunted festival of colour to mark the advent of spring.
Organizers told Assam Times that all arrangements are in place to ensure smooth celebration of the festival. District administration is also sparing no pain to make the ensure peace and normalcy during the festival of colour.
With cultural procession participated by thousands of people the idol of the Lord Krishna is being taken out of the monastery premises for traditional tour.
Over 100 foreign tourists are also joining the giant procession this time in Barpeta where the festival will conclude only the next week.
“I am extremely delighted to see the people dancing here with devotional music in their lips. I love this Indian tradition,” said a tourst from New Zealand.
Another tourist from Finland told Assam Times, “this is for the second time I am here to enjoy this festival of colour. This tradition gives me immense joy which can break the barriers of all castes, creeds and religions. India as a country will stand tall as long as this festival is observed.”
