Cong MLAs divide Assam BJP

Assam BJP unit is heading for a vertical split a year before the assembly polls.

Party top leaders refusing to be named told Assam Times that the crack is imminent after the party leadership has cleared the decks for joining of eight Congress leaders who are sitting legislators.

A section of senior leaders is dead opposed to the red carpet for the Congress leaders who created no less trouble within the party. “We cant say they wont do it in BJP also. We would suggest our party leadership not go for any quick decision,” said a senior BJP leader in New Delhi.

A section of the party leaders has call it a positive development to have seen to move of Congress legislators to join the party saying that these people have mass contact.

“We have not finalised anything on the move. It is for the party leadership to decide. But till new we have not got any green signal,” another senior party  leader said.

According to Assam Times Political Bureau, Assam unit president Siddharth Bhattachaya virtually does not endorse Dr Sarma’s entry into BJP. But he is boxed by the circumstances which is why he is bound to allow the Congress leader.

A section Congress dissident leaders has been deploying a social activist to war against Bhattacharya only to force him to keep silent.

The development is uneasy. If these are allowed to continue even after the resignation of national executive body member Pradyut Bora, the party’s poll prospect would have to suffer.

Party’s senior MPs were not available for comment.

The roads are bumpy, dusty and what not. Normal journey with this background would have been a cumbersome exercise indeed. But a golden January sunshine made us forget these at least for two hours on the way to Pobitora Sanctuary on Wednesday.  The weather was fine. But the timing was wrong. The season was fine. But the day falls on the eve of the Magh Bihu. That’s why, the abode of one horn rhino, wild bores and buffalos along with lots of migratory birds was not throbbing with tourists footfalls. Accompanied by a forest guard our seven seater jeep gradually moved inside the sanctuary. Much to our excitement, we came to spot four rhinos grazing beside a hard of wild buffalos in the...
