A North East Cultural Festival showcasing art and culture of the region pulled huge crowd in Delhi on Monday.
Organized at the Daulat Ram College by the north east committee of the Delhi varsity college, the event named as Elixir 1915, evoked good response from the college students from the region and outside.
“We want to focus the different cultures, resources and traditions from the north eastern states,” said an organizer.
Prakash Sarma from Assam who visited the festival on Monday told Assam Times that the event is instrumental to bridge the yawning gap of the north east from the mainland.
“More and more such events should be allowed to take place in Delhi. This is the best way to face the racial violence outside the region,” he said.
A Delhi University student who came to the college campus on the occasion said that only the rich culture and traditions of the north east would be able to wipe out the old notions of the people living in the Hindi belt. “Bihu I think is a festival that can boost bonhomie of Assam with other parts of the country,” said the student who hails from Jamshedpur.
Neela Das, a JNU student told Assam Times that the north east is not lagging behind. “We are telling the world that we have everything in us. We have a number of personalities who have been shining in different fields in the national and international arena. Why should we remain backward?” she said.
“We are happy to have seen so many students from the region and outside are visiting the event today. We hope it will leave a good and positive message of the region,” said one of the organizers.
The response to the traditional Bihu dance, colourful dance from Arunachal Pradesh pulled huge crowds along with Khamba Toibi.
