Sea of humanity in Sivasagar

Sivasagar town breaks into a sea of humanity as Shivrari festival enters day two on Tuesday.

The entire historic town in the state is teeming with thousands of devotees from the state and outside who are catching glimpse of the three day long festival for puja offering to the Lord Shiva.

From early in the morning devotees are waiting in long queue in front of the historic Shiva temple in the heart of the town to offer Mahashivratri puja.

Senior district administration officials told Assam Times that arrangements are in place to ensure smooth celebration of the festival where people from the country and abroad are pouring in.

Devotees from the far flung areas are getting a huge make shift camp in the town from Monday to Wednesday. The district administration has been providing the devotees with food from Monday to Wednesday.

Potable water, sanitation and medical facilities are also made available in the festival site.   

“We are on the round-the-clock vigil to thwart any attempt to spoil the celebration here,” said a senior police officials who urged the people to help them hold the festival without any hindrance.

The focus of attraction is the exhibition at the Shiva temple premises which pulls huge crowd from morning to evening.

The Nazira Civil administration is fully prepared for the ensuing Assambly Election  2016. There are 1,18,794 voters in the constituency with 159 nos. polling stations. For free and fair election at Nazira constituency the Election Commission recruits 4 Divisional officers,16 sector officers and 600 polling officers. Central election observer  R. B. A two-days-long 15th annual conference of the Sivasagar district All Assam Students Union (AASU) was held at Maut Gaon, Simaluguri on on January 4-5. The new executive committee  was formed in this conferance with Samiron Phukon became the general secretary and Ashim Dutta as the new president. Members of Nazira Anchalik AASU Unit walked out from the repeesentatives meetings due to the internal disputes.
Abhijit Dulakhakhoria (30) of Namti Dupdor gaon died in a bike accident at 9 AM on Thursday in the main road of Nazira town, when he was trying to cross the road. The other rider Nipul Gogoi (26) was also seriously injured and reffered to the Assam Medical College Hospital of Dibrugarh.
