Sea of humanity in Sivasagar

Sivasagar town breaks into a sea of humanity as Shivrari festival enters day two on Tuesday.

The entire historic town in the state is teeming with thousands of devotees from the state and outside who are catching glimpse of the three day long festival for puja offering to the Lord Shiva.

From early in the morning devotees are waiting in long queue in front of the historic Shiva temple in the heart of the town to offer Mahashivratri puja.

Senior district administration officials told Assam Times that arrangements are in place to ensure smooth celebration of the festival where people from the country and abroad are pouring in.

Devotees from the far flung areas are getting a huge make shift camp in the town from Monday to Wednesday. The district administration has been providing the devotees with food from Monday to Wednesday.

Potable water, sanitation and medical facilities are also made available in the festival site.   

“We are on the round-the-clock vigil to thwart any attempt to spoil the celebration here,” said a senior police officials who urged the people to help them hold the festival without any hindrance.

The focus of attraction is the exhibition at the Shiva temple premises which pulls huge crowd from morning to evening.

On the occasion of 48th death anniversary of Kalaguru Brishnu Prashad Rabha on Tuesday, Rava Divas was observed in different places of Nazira region. Freedom fighter, trade union leader and social worker of Nazira Benu Bhuyan breath his last at his own residence on last March 20. He was 85 and survived by his wife and son. On the occasion of the 68th Republic Day all citizens pf our country salute our National Flag and hoisted the Tricolour everywhere as a mark of Honour to it. But it is regret to say that due to the negligence of the teachers of the 310 No Molagaon government L.P. School of Nazira the Tricolour was lying down in the ground and latter Nazira administration recovered it with the police of Nazira police station.Investigation is going on in this regard but no case is registered for it in Nazira police station till today.

A huge scam in health department seems to have raised doubts over the Government’s sincerity to inject new hopes in the entire department. To resolve the burning issue of Assam-Nagaland border and reduce the tention among the people in the border areas, a harmony meeting was organised at Singibill Bazzar on Friday. To maintain the historic harmony of Assam and Nagaland it was unanimously decided in the meeting to continue and exchange peace dialogue between the two states.
CPI leaders and activists in Nazira joined the statewide protest on Wednesday outlining the issues of price hike,   inflation, Flood and erosion. Speakers in the protest meeting demanding immediate measures to mitigate the misery of the common people. ULFA(I) virtually scorned the security forces on Monday when the rebels in search of the sovereign Asom exploded a bomb in Charaideo when the district joined the Independence Day on Monday. The explosion took place at Pathaligarh at 8 in the morning which made a huge crater on the spot under the impact of the explosion. There was no casualty or injury.
