Outgoing Assam Asset Exec. Dir. briefs media

Outgoing Assam Asset ONGC Executive Director, Bimal Kumar Barua Tuesday hosted some 200 media persons at the Officer's Club at Nazira to brief the achievements of Assam Asset during his tenure. Barua is due to retire from his post on January 31, 2015.

Speaking to the convention he said that nearly 90 percent works of the Assam Renewal Project is being completed and a proposal of 1,768 Crore, Gelekey Renewal Project has been tabled which the Petroleum Ministry is to finalize in a few days. Presently, Assam Asset has 19 drilling rigs being looked after by ONGC.

He also informed that ONGC has submitted a proposal to the Government of Assam for the proper use of 1, 20, 000 MMCM of Natural Gas from their oil field for Thermal Power and the Gas Cracker at Lepetkota.

In this meeting he also reveals that the land settlement for the Cancer Hospital at Sivasagar is completed and hope that the major barrier for the construction of this multi crore project is removed.

Present during the media brief were Budhin Dewri, the newly appointed Executive Director of Assam Asset, Pramila Jaspal, Director Finance, Alok Khanna, Head Engineering Services, Prabesh Misra, GM Material Management, AK Agarwal GM Logging and other dignitaries.

A historical museum "From Yunan to Patkai" in memory of Chow Lung-Sukapha, founder of Ahom kingdom was inaugurated at Charaidew by fomer DoNer minister B.K. Handique. In Charaidew is the graveyard place of Ahom kings where their mausoleums are lying. The museum was contructed under the area development fund of Bijoy Krishna Handique, former Doner minister and member from Jorhat parliamentary constituency. To develop trade and economic ties with the neighbouring Myanmar, the Indian government will start bus services from Imphal to Mandalaya, Myanmar. A high level team of union surface transport ministry, lead by Joint secretary, will arrive at Imphal on February 21 for this puspose. Already discussions are going on between the Indo-Myanmar border trade Union and Republic Myanmar Border trade chamber and commerce for this service. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested ONGC’s civil wing General Manager P K Bora charging him with taking bribe from a contractor in his office. Before that an eleven-member CBI team from Guwahati had arrived in Sivasagar and probed the bribery allegations leveled by a contractor, Chanchal Konwar. Bora allegedly had demanded bribe for his bills to be passed for work done. The CBI team headed by DSP Zamang recovered cash 80,000 from the possession of Bora.
