Protest against big dam

A rally against the environmental clearance process of Large Hydroelectric power project in Arunachal Pradesh organise by the 13 different leading organisations in front of the deputy commissioner office of Tinisukia District. The group oppose the present form of undemocratic approach of the MoEF to Environmental clearance in Arunachal Pradesh   in general and specifically in Dibang and Lower Demwe Project. More than thousand leaders from 13 organisations join the rally and demand to reject the faulty recommendations of the EAC/FAC and not grant environment and forest clearance to the 3000 MW Dibang Multipurpose project.

The project should be considered for environment and forest clearance only after prior and comprehensive downstream impact assessment, cumulative impact assessment of multiple proposed projects in the upstream and public hearings in Assam. A memorandum has been sent through the District administration to Prime minister of India, Minster of Environment and forest and to the MP of Lakhimpur constituency.  The group raise serious concerns on the dams suppose to be comes up in the Na Dihing and Tirap River. Taking the Memorandum by the ADC of the District assure the group to send the memorandum as soon as and follow up with the update.

The protest group which include All Assam Student Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parisad (AJYCP), Moran Student Union, Chutia Student Union, Mattak Yuba Chatra Sanmillan, Adivashi Student Union, Gurkha Student Union, Asom Chatra Yuba Sangathan, Sonowal Kachari Student Union, All Tai Ahom Student Union, Brihatar Asomiya Yuba Mancha, Asom Sah-Sramik Student Union said that further negligence by the government in this issues with lead massive agitation near future.
