Reshuffle jinx: No solution in sight
Simmering tussle between Rajiv Bhawan and Dispur seems to have forced delay in the much-waited cabinet reshuffle. According to inputs available with Assam Times Political Bureau, chief minister Tarun Gogoi is caught in a Catch-22 situation after AICC suggested him to drop the 10-year cabinet colleagues.
If Gogoi goes by the AICC instruction, then he is not prepared to drop his trusted ministers including Pradyut Bordoloi, Rockybul Hussain, Ajanta Neog. In the same breath, he is bound to listen to the AICC instruction. A senior AICC leader told Assam Times in New Delhi that Gogoi would have to break the impasse in consultation with APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita.
APCC is also mired in no less crisis. A section of the leaders wants Bhubneswar Kalita to quit to pave the way for a new leader to head the state unit just one a half year ahead of the assembly polls. But Kalita has been maintaining his studied silence over the growing demand for a revamp in the Rajiv Bhawan.
The chief minister, in fact, wants Kalita to be replaced by his trusted men like Ripun Bora, Anjan Dutta, Pradyut Bordoloi. But Kalita wants to wait for May next year. These have forced chief minister to stall cabinet reshuffle.
Education and health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned refusing to work Tarun Gogoi as chief minister. Cooperation minister Siddique Ahmed and irrigation minister Dr Ardhendu Dey were dropped for doing dissident. Transport minister Chandan Brahma pulled out of the cabinet after BPF parted ways with Congress.
