Tourist guide training at Jorhat

Tourism Department of Assam Government has taken initiatives to start training young people who can become tour guides and become self employed. A training programme of tourist guides was held in Jorhat on November 17-22.  Participants were trained on range of subjects like hospitality, skills like communication, marketing, dealing with tourist confidently, etc. There were resources person and experts from the fields who dealt on different aspects of tourism like historical tourism, wild life tourism, eco tourism, tea and golf tourism, adventure tourism, etc.  Pankaj Goswami , Professor of History from J B College focused on the historical sites and monuments of Jorhat District in particular and others in general . Manashi Bora from Majuli focused on the tourism sector and the current trends in the sector and varieties of tourism in the present day.

Bhaskar Baruah, tour operator from Kaziranga shared his experiences and told about the need for becoming tourism guides. Pranjal Bora from IORA of Janambhoomi Group took session on hospitality. Ranjan K Baruah of North East Youth Foundation focused on the career opportunities related to tour guide in the state of Assam and outside. He took session on personality development and strategic planning including required employability skills like communication and others.  A filed trip was organsied to Kaziranga Natonal Park for exposure visit and practical training for the participants who were mostly from Jorhat and Sivasagar district. There was similar training in the Sivasagar district prior to training in Jorhat which has been organised by Tourism Department of Assam Government. The training programme was inaugurated by Anjanav Chaliha, Additional DC of Jorhat. Bidyaranav Bora, Tourist Information Officer (TIO) of Sivasagar District and i/c Jorhat coordinated the programme which was supported by Nilim Baruah, TIO under ATDC Ltd, Jorhat and Ananya Borthakur, Asst TIO of Sivasagar District. This raining programme was held at the Prashanti Lodge in Jorhat and attended by 35 participants.
