Despite round-the-clock vigil in the run up to Narendra Modi’s visit to Guwahati, security forces recovered a huge consignment of explosives on Thursday. Three bags full of explosives were recovered from Khanapara in the city early in the morning.
Guwahati police on Thursday recovered three boxes of explosives from a commercial vehicle near Mizoram House in the city. Police further arrested the driver along with a passenger.
Identified as Saharuddin Barbhuiya, the driver told the police the boxes were loaded by a courier agency in Aizawl on Wednesday. Police found some 1,200 detonators, more than 500 gelatin sticks and 12 rolls of wire in the boxes.
On the other hand, security forces have been intensifying checking at the city buses, two and three wheelers acting on the reports that two ULFA militants have been roaming in the city to strike during the prime minister’s visit to Guwahati.
