Nazira pays tribute to Bhupenda

Music legend Bhupen Hazarika was remembered at Nazira on his 3rd death anniversary. The All Assam Student Union’s Nazira unit lighted over hundred earthen lamps in front of Nazira HSMP School.

In an attempt to pay tribute to the bard the AJYCP regional unit of Bokata too organized a day long program at Nongalamara Gayanudoy Library.

In a bizarre incident that questions the existance of humanity, a woman gave birth to a baby on the street on Sunday. The incident that sends shockwaves across the state took place in Nazira where and mentall disable women gave birth to a baby on the Sunday in the broadday light. Having seen this pathetic plight, a section of eyewitness rushed the mother and the newborn to the Ligiripukhuri Hospital they are undergoing treatment. A few local NGOs are in touch with the authority to take over the care of the baby whose father is not known.

Nazira regional and sub-divisional unit of the Brihattar Asomiya Youva Mancha (BAYM) declared a 100-hours bandha against ONGC on Friday.  In a press meet at Nazira, Ranjan Mahanta, President and Rituraj Borgohain General Secretary of  the Nazira anchalik unit of the BAYM said that the ONGC continously neglecting the Assamese community and failed to fulfill the demands raised for the all round development of the Sivasagar District; so the organization  declared the bandha against the corporate from July 14.

Foundation day of the  Sivasagar District was observed on July 1. Kalaguru Brishnu Prashad Rabha Memorial Day with a day-long programme was organised at Nazira Community Centre on Friday. On this occasion a seminer on Bishnu Rabha was held. Drawing and poetry recitation competition were also organised on this occasion. The event was organsied by NGO Pragati, Freelance Journalist Association of Nazira, Pragati Mahila Mancha and Nazira Mohkuma Mahila Somittee.
People of Galekey's Bortania village in Nazira Sub division in Upper Assam are still affraid of the gas leakage incident at ONGC's  Rig No-E 2005 GK GL Well. This incident happened at 5 PM on June 12 and with a huge sound and polluting the air up to  2 kilometers. Although the crisis management team of ONGC immediately controlled the situation, local people demand for proper compensation. A public meeting were held in this are on Friday in this regard where SDPO of Nazira Ashif Ahmed, AK Kumar GGM of Drilling section of the ONGC, Kashyap Joshipura, Manager Corporate Communication of ONGC etc. were present alongwith other dignatories.
World Environment Day was observed at Nazira on June 5 by Pragati and Freelance Journalist Association. 500 seedlings were distributed on this occasion. Nazira Municipalty took a town cleaning programme at Nazira town. 
Latumoni Saikia of Dergaon ME School won the first position in the Inamul Muzid Khan memorial State Lavel Essay Competition. Palavita Borah of Nath Gaon Jorhat and Sarat Chandra Sirig Phukon of Rupai Siding and Bharat Das of Borhollah, Jorhat are jointly declared as third prize winner. The competiton was organised by the Freelance Journalist Association Nazira.
