Discover North East touches Jagiroad

It was a wonderful morning for many in Jagiroad as cultural troupes from different parts of the Northeast performed their beautiful dances on Thursday.

It was a part of fanning programme of the ongoing programme Discover North East – Assam, organized by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), under the Union Ministry of Culture.

“It was one of our prime agenda to reach to the rural areas as much as we can. We need to connect to the people of the region more to better our understanding,” said NEZCC directorLipokmar Tzudir at the venue at Nakhula Girls High School in Jagiroad.

Artistes from Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram performed their tradition dances in front of the locals of Jagiroad.

The programme started at 10 am and continued till 1 pm. The local artistes too took part enthusiastically in the event.

The local Tiwa community youths performed five varieties of dance during the event. They performed Godal Poria, Barat, Tokhrapala, Wangsuwa and Lalung Lalaipang dances.

“It was a great atmosphere for all of us. This is for the first time that our local people are experience this kind of event in our locality. It was really great to witness the various beautiful dances from different parts of the region,” said Nadiram Deuri, an exponent of Tiwa Folk dance who was present during the occasion.

Besides this colourful event, the evening witnessed a fantastic display of fusion music by popular singer Zubeen Garg.

The food stalls with tradition food items have also been able to draw the crowds. On Friday, there will be Theatre Dance Drama performance by Darpan Dance Akademi.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his Office in New Delhi and discussed with him to spruce up internal security mechanism including raising a new battalion for Assam.Gogoi also discussed with him the status of ceasefire agreement that the government has with different militant groups along with devising rehabilitation package for the surrendered militants. Moreover, Chief Minister Gogoi discussed with him the prevailing law and order of the state including other pending issues and requested the Home Minister to look into the matters for doing needful from the Centre. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the state government would bear all educational expenses for the students belonging to BPL families under a new scheme to be launched soon.
