Contrary to what was widely expected, a local court in Guwahati refused bail to Ranjan Daimary the bail fearing it a tactic in the name of peace process.
Hearing the bail petition along with the government’s no objection certificate, the court said that it may be a tactic by the NDFB boss to ensure release which cannot be encouraged under any circumstance.
The court’s judgment was expected on Tuesday. But it was reserved till Wednesday. The government did not oppose the bail when the NDFB boss pledged to carry forward the peace process with the Centre.
He earlier procured bail with the same plea. But was re-arrested and sent to jail on September 29 when the designated Tada court refused to extend his interim bail further.

Over 20 people have been injured when a passenger bus slipped into deep gorge in near Guwahati on Saturday.The accident took place at around 2-30 in the afternoon when the passenger bus was on its way to Kamakhya and suddenly it lost control and fell on a gorge where several people were rescued by police and local residents.
Governor J B Patnaik said that the government's counter insurgency operations have fetched dividends where the republic day boycott call was defied. Normal situation prevailed on Republic Day on Saturday. Trains and air services operated as usual though long distance and city private buses kept off the roads as the transport operators gave holiday to their staff on account of R-Day. National flags were seen fluttering in banks, educational institutions, etc., remained closed. Buses, private taxis and autorickshaws of state-run Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) plied as usual. Defying militant diktat, Republic Day was celebrated across the stat with much fanfare and cultural extravaganza. A powerful Improvised Explosive Devices was recovered ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Darrang district on Thursday.The bomb was found near the Mangaldoi police station and Republic Day parade ground in the morning.
