Marginal let-up in flood fury

There is sign of marginal let-up in the overall flood scene on Friday. The flood waters start receding trend in the worst hit areas of Goalpara and Kamrup Districts. The waterlevels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries across the state are also receding marginally.

In a bid to speed up dispatch relief materials, the North East Frontier Railway is running two special trains till September 30 between New Bongaigaon - Goalpara and Guwahati to Chayygaon.

The administration has set up 88 temporary relief camps in Goalpara District and 54 in Kamrup District to accommodate over 2 lakh people. But the road communication between Guwahati and Goalpara, however, remains cut off.
