ULFA militant held in Majuli

Majuli police on Friday captured an anti-talk faction ULFA militant two weeks ahead of the Independence Day.

Identified as Deepak Patowary alias Deepak Bora, the 36 year old ULFA man was arrested in the wee hours during an operation in the river island.

Acting on a tip off that an ULFA militant was hiding at Borguri Joorbil, police launched an operation on Thursday midnight where he was captured in the wee hours.

Six ULFA(I) extortion notices and two mobile hand sets were recovered from the militant.

 He joined ULFA in 1996 and later surrendered in 2007 and returned to insurgency in 2011 by joining Paresh Baruah led ULFA(I) faction for recruitment and extortion drives in Majuli, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar. //
