Cashew nut cartel!

After egg, betel leaf, fish and meat, now it’s the cartel of cashew nuts that makes the fruit more dearer for common people these days.

Some sensational revelations have come out during the investigation by the Assam Times.

A part of the cartel has been remaining active in Fancy Bazar area where Shanti Lal, Manoj Moore and Sunil Bothra have already stopped the rush of cashew nuts from outside. Cashew nuts procured from Mancachar are available in the Guwahati markets these days.

The trio have been running this cartel under the patronage of a powerful circle of people in Dispur which is why, these people have been maintaining a studied silence on the allegations of this dirty deal in cashew nuts.

Its strange to note. Raw cashew nut is available at Rs 65 per 2 KG while the price of a dressed cashew nut is available at Rs 480 per kg (If 2 kg raw cashew nut are required to get 1 KG of dressed cashew nut).

The raw cashew nuts procured from Garo hills are processed in Mancachar by the industries run by Dilip Bothra and Mahesh Agarwalla.

The workers are allegedly underpaid where they get Rs 50 for processing cashew nut per kilo in addition to Rs 20 for electricity charge.

With 20 percent benefit for the traders, the cashew nuts should have been available at a price not more than Rs 250.

But the cashew nut price stands at Rs 480 per KG only because of the cartel where Mancachar MLA Javed Islam mires in controversy.

According to allegation, the dissident MLA has been patronizing the entire cartel of cashew nuts with tacit support from a section of officials from the Dhubri administration.

It take about 4 kg of raw cashew to get 1 kg of the processed cashew nut which is being sold in the market. The investment in raw material is high, and also the rate of raw cashew reaches to about 80-100 kg during the off season. Hence, the prices are high.

CBI prepares fresh FIR on Saradha scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation is in a process to file a fresh FIR naming two powerful Congress MLAs in the Saradha scam. According to sources, the FIR would help the country’s premier investigating agency easily question the suspects in the multi crore scam that rocked Assam, West Bengal and Odisha. The new FIR to be filed has been prepared in the light of several new evidence involving influential men in Bengal and Assam. This would be reflected in the fresh FIR.

Rains wreaking havoc in Guwahati

 Rainwaters are back to wreak havoc in Guwahati. Many areas in the premier north eastern city have come under the rainwaters following the one hour long heavy downpour on Friday morning. The downpour began at 7 in the morning which halted only at 8-30 wreaking havoc with waters inundating the Guwahati-Shillong Road.  Union minister for forest and environment Prakash Javadekar is on visit to the state on Friday. Pipeline blast toll 6

The death toll in the LPG pipeline blast has gone up to 6 with the death of one more person. Identified as Hemanta Sarma, the critically injured person died at the Assam Medical College Hospital on Thursday where he was undergoing treatment. The explosion took place at Singijan at Moran along the Sivasagar-Dibrugarh inter district border on Monday. Four persons died and over 20 others were injured. One person succumbed to his injury on Wednesday at the AMCH. //

Nagaland moots LoC idea

Nagaland wants the line of control tag over the disputed area with Assam.   Talking to reporters in New Delhi after his meeting Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday, Chief Minister TR Zeliang said that he suggested converting the disputed boundaries with neighbouring Assam as "Line of Control" to ensure that no new settlement comes up there. "This was what I have suggested. The creation of Line of Control along the Assam-Nagaland border is required. LoC with additional guards will ensure that there is no new settlement in the disputed territory," he said.

Haflong averts major explosion

Haflong escaped a huge explosion incident when security forces recovered a huge quantity of explosives from a train on Thursday. The explosives were found at Lower Haflong Railway station in Dima Hasao district. The explosives, contained in two bags, included 292 pieces of gelatin sticks, 600 pieces of detonators (six packets with 100 in each pocket) and three coils of fuse wire of three feet each, were recovered from a compartment of the Silchar-bound Cachar Express coming from Lumding during a routine security check by GRP personnel at the station. //

Saradha: ED waiting for CBI probe

The Enforcement Directorate team, dealing with the Saradha scam, is waiting for CBI investigation to chargesheet the people involved in the multi crore scam. The investigating officials have been finalizing the charges against political leaders, businessmen who struck unholy deal with Saradha boss Sudipto Sen. The ED is believed to have traced a substantial part of the proceeds of the crime. Once the CBI probe is over, then ED will be able to file a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) against the accused. The official said that the department had attached properties worth Rs3.50 crore apart from the attachment of the properties in West Bengal, Assam and Odhisha. The ED had conducted...
