Janajati Suraksha stages dharna

Hundreds of people from different tribal communities like Bodo, Garo, Rabha from various organizations holding plycards, festoons and banner participated in the three-hour sit-in protest dharna demanding protection of the tribal belts, blocks and tribal sub-plan areas which are under encroachment by illegally settlers on Thursday in Kokrajhar.

It was organised by the Janajati Suraksha Mancha near Kokrajhar Deputy commissioner ofice and shouted slogans demanding protection of the trbal areas and safeguard of tribal people and justice.

A memorandum was submitted to Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Nitin Khade  demanding protection of the tribal belts and blocks in Assam and restoration of tribal land to the tribal people. The tribal body said that illegally migrated peoples who are occupying the protected tribal areas should be evicted and the tribal belts, blocks and tribal sub-plan should be protected at any cost.

The Janajati Suraksha Mancha  stated that because of much encroachment of non-notified people, particularly immigrants from Bangladesh(earlier East Pakistan) and Varna Hindus into the tribal belts and blocks, the tribal people have tends to lose their land. It slammed the state of not taking any steps in safeguarding the protected tribal lands for their self political interest.

It has urged the government to take strong measures against illegal settlers and migrants and proper implementation of Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act, 1886 and amended in 1947 and clear all the tribal belts and blocks from illegal encroachers.
