Hojai based Anfar Foundation in partnership with Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) distributed food packs to some 18064 people in the three districts of Nagaon, Morigaon and Sonitpur on the ocassion of Ramadhan. Former minister irrigation, soil conservation and fisheries, Nurjamal Sarkar participated in the distribution program held at Biswanath Ghat in Sonitpur district recently.
Every year during the month of Ramadhan, IRW through its partners reaches out to poor and needy families with food packs across the globe. Islam encourages Muslims to be particularly charitable during the month of Ramadhan. Feeding people at the end of the fasting day is considered a rewarding spiritual act in the Islamic teachings and traditions. The support ensures food security essential particularly during the month.
3000 of the families this year included persons with disabilities (PWD), women headed households, the aged, pregnant and lactating mother among others. Food packs contained rice, dal, chick peas, sugar, dates and edible oil.
