Caught in a Catch-22 situation, chief minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the Centre to expedite the steps to set up the proposed Brahmaputra River Valley Authority to firmly deal with the perennial flood problem.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gogoi said that Dispur has cleared the decks to set up BVRA in 2012. But the proposal has been pending before the Centre for the last two years.
Sources told Assam Times that the Centre wants political representation of the north in the proposed BRVA in view of the failure of the Brahmaptra Board in the absence of political leadership.
