Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday blamed improper drainage system and rampant encroachment in wetland and hills areas a day after 12 people were killed in massive water logging and electrocution and landslide in the city.
Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Gogoi said that rain waters refuse to recede in the city because of the faulty drainage system.
“We are taking steps to remove these hurdles in a planned manner,” said Gogoi.
“Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal talked to me overtelephone yesterday. I told him that I can deal with the short term measures. But will seek Centre’s help in the long term measures,” said the Chief Minister.
Gogoi further said that rainwaters from Meghalaya are also responsible for massive waterlogging in the city.
