Repolling has passed off peacefully in three booths in Karimganj on Wednesday. The turn out was moderate possibly because of the incessant rains that lashed the entire area from the morning.
Initially, the polling booths had no crowds. The numbers of voters increased towards the noon. Voters in large number had to wait outside the booths to exercise their franchise till 5 in the evening.
Repolling took place at Haricharan Mahamaya LP School, Kaberiband LP School and Matijhuri Girls’ HS School where large scale rigging was alleged.
Notably, BJP alleged large scale rigging in these three booths in Karimganj in the second phase of polling on April 12.
The repolling was ordered after examining the video footages where a Congress worker Bapan Das was casting a number of votes in Haricharan Mahamaya LP School.
In Matijhuri LP School booth two AIUDF workers namely Dilwar Hussain and Nurul Haque Majharbhuyan were seen roaming inside the polling booth at Matijhuri LP School.
In Kaberibandh LP School, the presiding officer himself casted multiple votes forcing BJP candidate Krishna Das to move the Chief Election Commission demanding fresh polling.
