NIA probe begins in BTAD

A four member is on a stock-taking visit to the BTAD areas on Monday.

Consisting of top ranked officials of the investigation agency, the team is set to tour the entire trouble torn spots in BTAD areas to assess the ground situation.

The agency would broaden the ambit of the probe in the later stage. After collecting the initial inputs from the civil and army officials deployed in the BTAD areas, the NIA officials would leave back for New Delhi.

NIA on Friday agreed to probe the cases of BTAD violence after the chief minister recommended the probe.

Gogoi, Kalita meet Rahul

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi meets Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon amid speculation of stepped up efforts to deal with dissidence in Assam Congress.   Accompanied by APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita, the chief minister met Gandhi at the AICC headquarters at 4-30 in the afternoon and the discussion lasted for nearly an hour. A CBI team arrested a BRO official and seized Rs 15 lakh in cash from him in Guwahati on Wednesday.CBI picked up task Force Commandant Ram Milan was arrested from the Guwahati railway station. Crippling bandhs in Goalpara

Boat mishap: 2 killed

Two persons died when a vegetable boat met with a tragic mishap on the river Brahmaputra in Kamrup district on Sunday.It took place in the afternoon when the boat was on its way from Rani Chapori to Garal. There were three persons when the boat met with the tragic mishap because of a severe dust storm. One of them managed to escape death. Two others died and the bodies were fished out on Monday morning by NDRF personnel. 

Dissident MLAs in New Delhi

Five dissident Congress MLAs are camping in New Delhi to meet party president Sonia Gandhi. Led by former MP Kirip Chaliha, they are reportedly waiting to call on Gandhi’s political adviser Ahmed Patel on Monday to air their grievances. Sarma dares CM on tobacco bill

The war of words between Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma takes an interesting turn on Sunday.
