The Election Commission is all set to hold Rajya Sabha election for three seats from Assam on March 26 along with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal Bihar, Orissa, Guajrat. Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. According to the schedule announced by the EC, notifications would be issued on March 8 and the last date for filing nominations would be on March 15. The papers will go for scrutiny on March 17 while the last date for withdrawal of nominations would be on March 19. Counting of votes would take place on March 26 at the end of the polling. The term for three Rajya Saha from Assam Dwijen Sarma, Karnendnu Bhattacharjee and UG Brahma will expire in April. Notably, Assamtimes in its recent story said the Asom Gana Parishad has already begun its hectic confabulations to wrest one its seats.
