Kokrajhar ready for poll

The Kokrajhar district administration is all set and geared up for the 3rd and last phase parliamentary election schedueld tomorrow in a tight security.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Nitin Khade said the administration is fully prepared to conduct the election and ready to hold the election in free and fair manner. 

Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency consists of 10 Assembly segments. The total number of voters in respect of Kokrajhar HPC is 15, 03,190 with 7, 30,582 female voters. 

There are a total of 2049 numbers of polling stations, 130 polling building were identified as very sensitive, 220 sensitively safe and 188 comparatively safe.  

Khade said that preventive measures have been taken up and security intensified and round the clock security vigil. He said necessary arrangement with adequate security were done in border areas - West Bengal inter-state and Indo-Bhutan international border. He said army and paramilitary forces were used for area domination in sensitive areas which has presence of militancy in border areas.

He also said army helicopter would be used for security purpose and in emergency.

Kokrajhar is witnessing a multi-corned contest this time with a total six candidates in fray. The candidates are Urkhao Gwra Brahma (Independent, backed by ABSU and its allied organizations and parties like the BPPF, NDFB (P), UDPF, the PJACBM), Chandan Brahma of Bodoland Peoples' Front  (BPF), Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Naba Kumar Sarania alias Hira Sarania(Independent, backed by  Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Manch), four times sitting MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary(Independent) and Sabda Ram Rabha(Independent).

Carnage mastermind held in Chirang

Security forces claimed to have achieved a major success when they nabbed at least 8 dreaded NDFB-S rebel who was the matermind behind the recent Adivasi carnage along with 7 other top others from Chirang district on Tuesday.According to information, these notorious rebels were held duirng a joint operation along the Indo-Bhutan border in the morning.They include the self styled second lieutenant Enon Bargoyary and Rinen Basumatary. BPF alleges political conspiracy

The Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF) party alleged political conspiracy behind the December 23 carnage by NDFB(S) to monger trouble among the Bodos and non Bodos in the run up to the BTC polls.BPF secretary Prabin Boro told reporters in Kokrajhar on Sunday that the carnage which had claimed over 80 lives in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang districts is a fall out of a deep rooted political conspiracy. 2 more NDFB(S) ultras held

Kokrajhar police on Saturday have arrested two more hardcore NDFB-S rebels hours after security forces gunned down yet another dreaded NDFB-S militant who unleashed terror on December 23.Police told Assam Times that  the NDFB-S rebels  were apprehended at Kolabari under Serfanguri police station in the Kokrajhar in the evening.Identified as Ganda Basumatary of Padabil and Bullet Basumatary of Ramfalbil, the duo were arrested during an operation conducted by police when they were trying to flee at Kolabari. Police recovered one 7.65 mm pistol, four live bullets from them. 

Wanted NDFB-S rebel killed

Security forces on Saturday claimed to have killed a hardcore NDFB-S militant who was involved in the December 23 Adivasi massacre in Kokrajhar.According to Kokrajhar SP Sunil Kumar, identified as Jeblang alias Jagat Basumatary, he was the platoon commander of the anti-talk faction of the outfit. He was killed during a combing operation by police and SSB at a remote area near Serfanguri around 2 in the afternoon. Kokrajhar SP Sunil Kumar told Assam Times that  acting on a tip off police and SSB launched a  operation in the entire area at noon. Vital lead on Adivasi massacre

 Security forces are believed to have got the vital lead on the recent Adivasi massacre after they captured seven dreaded NDFB(S) rebels in Kokrajhar on Friday.Interrogation is going on to extract more confession on the gory attack where at least 75 Adivasi innocent people lost their lives in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur on December 23.They were caught during an operation by Army troops of 21 Division under 4 Corps and Kokrajhar Police in Ripu forest of Kokrajhar.According to sources, the arrested rebels include Mathinga and another trained NDFB (S) terrorist. They were part of the action team involved in the carnage.  

NIA visits Lungsung, Ultapani

NIA Director General Sharad Kumar landed at Bismuri ground in a helicopter to take stock of the carnage of Adivasi area at Lungsung and Ultapani under Bismuri police out post in Kokrajhar district. on Thursday.Kumar was accompanied by IGP(NIA) GP Singh reached at Bismuri at 11 AM and visited the Lungsung and Ultapani and took stock about carnage by NDFB(S) where NIA team have been investigating into carnage since last few days.Kumar also met affected families and shared grief of victimised.The NIA are taking up two cases in connection with the December 23 carnage  in Kokrajhar(case number 557/2014 and 558/2014).

Ranjan cadres join NDFB(P)

A total 15 members of NDFB-R (Ranjan Daimary), including the commander of the outfit’s eastern command Renjen Goyary alias G. Rafwd and spokesperson Martin Narzary alias N Mwnthai officially joined the NDFB-P (Progressive) at the NDFB-P designated camp at Serfanguri in Kokrajhar on Thursday.They were accorded warm welcome with traditional aronai at a home coming ceremony which was attended by the NDFB-P judicial secretary, B. Sudem and assistant publicity secretary, R. Daoka among others. Insufficient ex-gratia amount!

The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam(AASAA) is unhappy with the ex-gratia and rehabilitation grants of the government for the family members of the recent carnage victims. The organization further demanded hike of Rs 20 lakh each to the deceased victim and Rs.5 lakh to the injured persons during carnage.Talking to Assam Times, AASAA leader Satyanath Tudu said that the association and affected peoples were not satisfied with the ex-gratia and rehabilitation grants of the government.
