Kokrajhar ready for poll

The Kokrajhar district administration is all set and geared up for the 3rd and last phase parliamentary election schedueld tomorrow in a tight security.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Nitin Khade said the administration is fully prepared to conduct the election and ready to hold the election in free and fair manner. 

Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency consists of 10 Assembly segments. The total number of voters in respect of Kokrajhar HPC is 15, 03,190 with 7, 30,582 female voters. 

There are a total of 2049 numbers of polling stations, 130 polling building were identified as very sensitive, 220 sensitively safe and 188 comparatively safe.  

Khade said that preventive measures have been taken up and security intensified and round the clock security vigil. He said necessary arrangement with adequate security were done in border areas - West Bengal inter-state and Indo-Bhutan international border. He said army and paramilitary forces were used for area domination in sensitive areas which has presence of militancy in border areas.

He also said army helicopter would be used for security purpose and in emergency.

Kokrajhar is witnessing a multi-corned contest this time with a total six candidates in fray. The candidates are Urkhao Gwra Brahma (Independent, backed by ABSU and its allied organizations and parties like the BPPF, NDFB (P), UDPF, the PJACBM), Chandan Brahma of Bodoland Peoples' Front  (BPF), Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Naba Kumar Sarania alias Hira Sarania(Independent, backed by  Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Manch), four times sitting MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary(Independent) and Sabda Ram Rabha(Independent).

Shukanjhora lifts volleyball trophy

Shukanjhora sports club defeated Fakiragram Maibong club and lifted trophy of friendly match of volleyball held at Fakiragram on Saturday in Kokrajhar. The match was organised by VDP to create healthy integration among various communities in the area. Shukanjhora defeated Fakiragram by 2-1 sets and lifted the trophy. Kokrajhar DC Thaneswar Malakar graced the prize distribution chief guest and gave away winner trophy and PK Bhagawati, ADC gave away the runners up trophy . Eighteen expelled

Altogether 18 students were expelled from examination in Kokrajhar district for unfair means on the first day with English subject of HSLC and High Madrasa examination which started from Thursday.As many as 16 students were expelled from Silbari High School centre and two students from Kokrajhar Govt.HS & MP School centre for taking unfair means in the examination.A total of 15,148 students were participated in 28 centres in the district and the examination was passed of peaceful on its first day.Various organisation and parties including ABSU,AASU,ABMSU,AASAA extended greetings to the students who are participating the final examination.

Vaccination drive in Kokrajhar

Along with a few other places, Kokrajhar launched the immunization drive with pentavalent vaccine(PV) on Wednesday. The launching function took place at te Kokrajhar Rup Nath Brahma Civil Hospital in the morning in presence of BTC Joint Secretary of Health and Family welfare Dinesh Boro. The vaccine will cover every baby to get rid of disease during infancy. As per direction the in BTC region, it has been launched in Kokrajhar, said Dr.J C Boro, Joint Director of Health Service, Dr Giren Bhuyan CHD Social welfare department, Dr. Anubha Das Superintendent RNB Civil Hospital Kokrajhar was among others who attended the function.

BTC polls: PCDR names 9 candidates

Shocking: Neonate body in Kokrajhar

The body of a neonate sends no less shock in Kokrahar town on Tuesday. Local residents in the town spotted the body behind the fly over in the morning.Eyewitnesses told Assam Times that the body was kept inside a carry bag to be dropped behind the fly over.Kokrajhar GRP personnel came and took away the baby.

Gossaigaon SDO suspended

The Assam Government has suspended Kokrajhar civil SDO for misappropriation of relief materials. The suspension order for Gossaigaon was issued on an enquiry report on the allegations of misappropriation of relief materials by SDO(Civil) Amalendu Roy meant for the camp inmates. Sources told Assam Times that the number of inmates of the relief camps were shown to be higher than the actual number of inmates for procuring more relief materials to the camps. These were done at the instance of Roy forcing the authority to take action against him.

Electoral roll published in Kokrajhar

Deputy Commissiner and Returning Officer, Kokrajhar Thaneswar Malakar published the the draft electoral roll in constituecy wise at a meeting held at DC office conference hall today in Kokrajhar in the presence various party and organisation leaders under provision of Rule of 11 of the Bodoland Territorial Council(Election) Rules 2004.He said that the district adminsitartion  have appointed five Assistant Returning Officer(ARO) and 20 appointed 20 officers to conduct free and fair electoral roll publication for five BTC constituencies under Kokrajhar Sadar sub-division in the district.
